Lunar New Year
is today.
That’s great.
Everybody
Hands out small
red and gold
Envelopes to new
generations
With money that
will be spent well
(I hope).
Starts eating
dim sim more.
Breaking and
opening
Fortune cookies
somewhere at
Panda Express
since they can’t
Afford an
expensive Chinese Restaurant
(I know how you
all feel)
Setting
fireworks at night
Like it is
Fourth of July
Screaming “Happy
Lunar New Year!”
But here I am
Typing this poem
Like any other
day
Reminiscing the
times
I used to receive
those
Red envelopes.
But I can’t
celebrate the Sheep’s
Year.
My old man isn’t
here
To celebrate
with me
Or my family.
He is
celebrating the Ram’s
Year in the sky
With the Big Guy
Without us.
It is also the
day
He left us
From the world.
Mom doesn’t want
To watch the
fireworks or
Eat countless
dim sim.
Neither do I.
